MediaTek has officially announced the launch of a brand new MediaTek MT6595 SOC for the Indian market with support for 4G LTE connectivity. This new chipset will be competing against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 which still dominates the high end segment.
Economic Times reports that the new MediaTek MT6595 has an octo core configuration, based on the latest ARM architecture – the Cortex A17, successor to the once popular A9. As already mentioned, this new SoC will take on the likes of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800/801 as it has support for WQXGA display resolution, along with support for Ultra HD 4K video playback. Made up of quad Cortex A17 cores, it can clock speeds upto 2.2Ghz. In terms of connectivity, it has support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS and 4G LTE Cat.4 (FDD and TDD).
The new MediaTek MT6595 processor is undeniably a beast of an SoC, and we hope to see them in mid-range phones with high performance at affordable prices.
